DAVID JOHNSON knew from a young age that fishing was the road to fame and fortune, and after 12 years of guiding--3 as an outfitter, and 2 as a shop owner--and some 1500+ guide trips, sees that wealth coming to fruition every night when he walks up the steps into his rental house in Carbondale.  Living proof that fishing guides are overeducated, underachieving, maladjusted, escapist misfits, DJ dropped out of college with a high GPA after studying English Lit. in London his junior year, and has been dropping out with his guitar and fly rod ever since.   Never one to do anything half-assed, he has filled his surroundings with necessary trappings like a raft and driftboat, and unnecessary trappings like a fly shop and its fixtures, all to help himself and his clients escape from that dreary place known as the "real world".  He enjoys changing the scenery and mixing it up between float and wade trips, beginners and experts--because a guide isn't anything if they aren't versatile (except schizophrenic, of course).  When he grows up next year, he wants to be a big boy, and perhaps begin thinking about buying a place by the age of 40, and may some day publish his memoirs, "Red Letter Ravings--or How to Win Friends and Influence People with a Poison Pen".

Sign: Virgo

About My Date:  Be prepared to make it up as you go, and to go with the flow, because the flow is always changing

Turn Ons:  Women with Winstons, Trash Fish

Hot Spots:  Anywhere and everywhere in the Roaring Fork Valley--it's a good place to be stuck

ED DEISON has been guiding for 11 years now and is also the veteran of some 1500+ guided trips.  Early in his career he was dubbed with the nickname "Lead", because of his uncanny ability to put clients into fish nymphing, a prowess which has only grown since.  Of course Ed throws dries when it's on--But you'll be glad to be in his dory or raft during those many times of the day and year when the stubborn dry fly purists are scratching their heads.  And you'll be amazed at how many feeding fish there are lurking in the Roaring Fork that are now landing in your boat, and you'll be feeling sorry for the guy in the boat behind you...Ed's style on the river is quiet and intense, and if yours is, then he's your man.  He usually saves the small talk and philosophical stuff for happy hour, when you can debate important matters such as free will with him, which absolutely exists as "the choice to have my clients fish left or fish right".
Sign: Virgo
About My Date:  Must be willing to add to large collection of fish photos
Turn Ons:  Piercings--mainly through the lip with Prince nymphs, but anywhere will do
Hot Spots:  Colorado River in Spring and Fall, Florida Keys in May

CLEM RINEHART broke into the guiding scene back around 1998 at the tender age of 19 when he was affectionately referred to as "Young Clem".  And while his life has gotten more complicated now in the real world of wheeler-dealer types, we have certainly gotten no less old in the meantime and are still forced to enviously call him "Young Clem"...  Clem has joined the ranks of river pimps becoming dirt pimps, starting his own real estate company in Denver, and is mainly a weekend warrior back in the Roaring Fork Valley now with the guiding gig.  In spite of the obligatory appearances ripping up chunks of fairway now, he still finds time to beat the saltwater to a froth chasing tarpon and permit, as well as stripers in the Northeast.  He was recently the winning guide of the Pro-Am Carp Tournament in the Stinky Waters of the South Platte in Denver, successfully dodging "floating brown trout" while netting the prize winning scumsuckers.  He is available mainly for float trips and for selling cool lofts in downtown Denver, which you can check out at http://lodoloftguy.com/
Sign: Cancer
Turn Ons:  Tarpon, Galvan Reels, Hitting the Links
About My Date:  Must be willing to get a little slimy and a little smelly
Hot Spots:  Raft world on the Roaring Fork, LoDo, New Zealand

WOLF SCHEIBLBERG is a rarity in this area--someone who actually grew up in Colorado (Durango, actually).  And no, Crystal Fly Shop's shop manager is not the offspring of mountain hippie types--it's an Austrian thing!  And Wolf definitely possesses the creativity and attention to detail that we would expect from a Wolfgang--he is an accomplished photographer, ski instructor, and handyman when not handling his duties in the shop or guiding wade trips on the river (or luring in Bull Moose in heat with his special pheremones and fishing prowess).  Wolf's patience and concern are genuine, and he is a great teacher for those who are relatively new to the sport of waving a stick in a river.  He has proven himself on the waters of the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork, and his specialty is wading the big Colorado between Glenwood and his home in Newcastle when the fishing's happening down there.

Turn Ons:  Legend Elites, Elkhorn T-Series, Rainbows slurping Green Drakes

About My Date:  I'm not picky--I've got something to show beginners or experts

Hot Spots:  Elk Creek, CFS, Silt Happens!

MERLE RODGERS has lived and guided in the Frying Pan Valley since time immemorial.  And yes, it is a documented fact, that Merle has indeed lived 5 full lives, which you will realize when you spend a day fishing with him and you hear of his many illustrious adventures here and abroad.  A walk wade specialist, Merle knows exactly where every 20 inch cutbow on the Frying Pan lives, as well as a few on the Roaring Fork, because that is the only thing his clients ever catch.  But seriously, Merle lives on the banks of the Frying Pan, and can tell you all about the saratella and every other obscure bug which frequents his world and needs to be a part of yours to catch fish there.

Turn Ons: A little P-Tail in the morning, Stimulators in the afternoons, a Royal Humpy before dark
About My Date:  High and dry is the way to go when we can, but must not be afraid to go down and dirty to get the job done if we have to
Hot spots: Eagle Pool rules!

THE GUIDE PROFILE PAGE IS NEW AND STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT--

OR AT LEAST THAT'S THE EXCUSE WE'RE GIVING YOU FOR NOT POSTING THE PICTURES OF THESE OTHER GREAT GUIDES WHO ARE REALLY JUST HIDING FROM THEIR PAROLE OFFICERS...

To PATRICK MURRAY, not only trout streams, but all the world's a stage.  In addition to honing his craft on the river the past 15 years he's lived in the valley, Patrick has been honing his craft center stage in many local theatrical productions as an actor and drama teacher.  His infectious enthusiasm for the sport of fly fishing is no act however, and his clients really enjoy the genuine excitement he shares with them while showing them the fine points of our sport and area.  His teaching style and positive attitude are natural, and a day spent wade fishing with Patrick may just take home the Oscar (or at least the Golden Globe).

Sign: Capricorn

Turn Ons:  A River Runs Through It (Brad Pitt has nothing on Patrick’s shadowcast or smile),

About My Date:  Must be willing to rehearse lines, especially tight lines

Hot Spots:  Frying Pan, Upper Roaring Fork

MATT RUSSELL is a young rising star in the Colorado galaxy of fly fishing.  He has spent most of his guiding career the past 3 years putting clients onto fish out of either his driftboat or raft locally on the Roaring Fork and Colorado, as well as doing many 3 day excursions in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison with Black Canyon Anglers.  He also takes wade trips, where he is more likely to keep his shirt on, much to the disappointment of other river users.  His team recently finished 2nd in the local High Mountain Masters float fishing tournament, in spite of his healthy tan.  Don't let Matt's youth fool you--he is a young gun who can show you a lot more than fine physique during a day spent on the river with him.

Turn Ons: Pteronarcys Californica californicating in steep canyons

About My Date:  Must enjoy big dry flies as bobbers

Hot Spots:  South Canyon on the Colorado, Black Canyon of the Gunnison

RODI QUITIQUIT has been a fixture on the valley guiding scene for some 15 odd years.  Another madman Virgo genius on the staff, Rodi pioneered the company Trout Ideas back in the 90's which had many products picked up by Orvis, including the original Bozo yarn with rubber rings and the best lanyard ever invented.  He prefers to spend his guiding days bobbing clients up and down the river in his infamous double blue banana pontoon boat, which he insists has eaten many aluminum driftboats for breakfast.  The only thing sharper than his streamers is his wit, which you will love to be on the receiving end of.

Sign:  Virgo

About My Date:  Any level of experience will do—I can show beginners the ropes and seasoned veterans a few new tricks

Turn Ons:  Bass boats and banana float boats

Hot Spots:  North Fork of Gunnison, North end of the bar at Russett's
